Defense Personnel Analytics Center Seeks a Supervisory Data Scientist

The DOD‘s Defense Personnel Analytics Center (DPAC) is searching for a Supervisory Data Scientist, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.

This position – part of the Defense Human Resources Activity – will supervise a multi-dimensional team of data scientists in the development of new or improved data science methods, techniques, principles, and concepts. Assigns tasks based on the expertise and capability of the work force in planning, evaluating, documenting, and defending the special projects assigned.

According to the posting, duties for the Supervisory Data Scientist include:

  • Is responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying patterns in data through the use of statistical analysis, data mining, natural language processing, and visualization techniques.
  • Uses familiarity with writing code to automate a pipeline from many data sources including Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL)operations, programming in scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL, JAVA) and statistical languages (e.g., R, Python, SAS), and visualizations (e.g., R Graphics, Qlik, Power BI, Tableau).
  • Manages research portfolio(s) to ensure that both long- and short-term projects are synchronized with customers’ priorities and that capacity is preserved for quick turn analysis.
  • Research projects address the full range of data science matters in support of the wider DPAC mission.
