DHS Customs and Border Protection is searching for a Data Scientist, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.

This position is with CBPs Office of Information and Technology, Office of the Assistant Commissioner, located in Ashburn, VA. The Data Scientist will use their expertise by serving as a data analytics expert and an advisor to senior management on a variety of administration and policy issues of interest to CBP and OIT officials, as well as other federal, state, and local agencies.

According to the posting, duties for the Data Scientist include:

  • Providing expert consultation to senior management through the application of advanced data science techniques including data extraction, transformation, cleaning, modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.
  • Applying advanced quantitative, computer science, mathematical, and statistical skills to interpret extremely large and unstructured data sets.
  • Advising and developing innovative strategies on measurement of the design, development, deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of large-scale projects to analyze programmatic data and forecast the effects of alternative courses of actions and programmatic gaps.
  • Gathering, processing, and converting raw and unstructured data from a variety of systems and databases into clean, organized information.
  • Solving statistical problems that occur in data collection and summarization processes.
