The Defense Logistics Agency is seeking to hire a Data Scientist to oversee Artificial Intelligence Risk, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.

The Data Scientist will serve as the J-6D AI risk management DLA technical lead, ensuring responsible AI is strategically operational within DLA and adheres to Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Presidential Executive Orders (EOs), legislation, laws, and regulations. DLA J-6D is the Chief Data and Analytics Office within J-6 Information Operations.

According to the posting, duties for the Data Scientist include:

  • Implements DLA and DoD AI guidance ensuring responsible AI for AI acquisition, development, and deployment within DLA organizations.
  • Evaluates algorithms and tools to support AI data manipulation, processing, and application of fact-finding and investigative techniques in establishing and executing implementation procedures for planning, coordination, monitoring, and ensuring inclusion of DLA customers’ requirements for mission objectives.
  • Serves as the authoritative subject matter expert (SME) for decisions and guidance dealing with compromises and changes in implementation program philosophy, focus or objectives.
  • Directs and monitors effective resource utilization consistent with established budgets and recommends or initiates action to align resources.
  • Continuously assesses and analyzes program requirements to include plans, designs, and evolving developments.
  • Determines gaps in DLA’s AI risk management and responsible AI program areas and develops corrective action plans and applies forward thinking leadership in promoting and implementing a vision that fosters advancement and excellence.
  • Coordinates and integrates AI into strategic planning initiatives and program requirements with management. Prepares and provides briefings to senior leadership within the Agency and to external audiences, as required.
  • Leads the short- and long-range AI capability development and collaborates with and leads the team in identifying and assessing risk throughout the AI development cycle.
  • Interprets and assesses impact of responsible AI policy, law, regulations on AI strategic and operational planning.
  • Provides guidance on how and when responsible AI tools are used in the AI product lifecycle.
  • Identifies and addresses AI implementation roadblocks and ensures the safety and mitigates the risk of any DLA AI tools, models, and capabilities.
  • Delineates program offices’ responsibilities and authority in monitoring solution performance. Keeps AIO, senior leaders, and DLA AI users and working groups apprised of impact to program areas..
