The Economic Development Administration within the Department of Commerce is searching for a Chief Data Officer, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.
According to the posting, duties for the Chief Data Officer include:
- Managing, directing, executing, overseeing, and implementing effective data policies across EDA. Represents EDA’s data standards and strategy on Department of Commerce data related working groups, councils, committees, and panels. Provides strategic integration of policies and processes across EDA to provide a basis to achieve information sharing goals necessary to support data-driven decision making.
- The CDO works to bring leadership and staff the ability to use data to solve specific business problems in addition to transitioning external stakeholders into the new integrated technology and data environment. Coordinates and executes an iterative strategy for scaling and maturing EDA’s data talent, skills, and capabilities.
- Champion the use of modem data management, drawing upon industry best practices particularly when transparency, speed and accuracy are essential. Utilize deep understanding of the characteristics of successful digital services to optimize information delivery systems and establish a data governance strategy and structure that positions EDA to fulfill its strategic goals and legal requirements. Identifies emerging data management strategies, understands their potential to impact mission, and finds collaborative ways to incorporate their adoption into EDA operations and data management architecture. Enhances systems and tools that EDA uses to collect, store, analyze, and visualize data assets.
- Assist staff, as necessary, in proactively encouraging and facilitating competitive investment proposals and in actively participating with proponents and/or stakeholders in conceptual project development and structuring to ensure an adequate volume of high impact proposed projects at every stage of the EDA investment pipeline.
- Work with EDA budget and financial leaders to ensure adequate resources, works with public facing offices to ensure proper public releases/webtools and stakeholder socialization, works with internal customers to support full adoption of best practices and leveraging automation/system derived solutions to minimize workloads and error rates, and works with program leadership to understand the anticipated benefits, costs, and risks to elements of the data strategy, ensuring that decisions appropriately balance utility and feasibility, given the tradeoffs required for implementation.
- Evaluate EDA’s current data architecture/structure and operations, develops and recommends steps to be taken to modernize, including associated data analytics and business intelligence that will provide substantive efficiencies.
