Brian Erickson
CAPT Brian Erickson has served as the Chief Data Officer for the US Coast Guard since 2021, with technical authority for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and analytics. As CDO, he has overseen development of the Coast Guard’s first data strategy and first cloud adoption strategy. His office set up a data governance board and a data governance committee, which he chairs. They have created a common data lexicon and stood up an integrated data environment and a big data platform. During his 30-year career in the USCG, he has served in many roles including program reviewer for the Office of Budget and Programs, pilot, aeronautical engineer, structural engineer, and commanding officer of a 110-member Coast Guard Air Station. He was a Sloan Fellow at the MIT Sloan School of Management during the pandemic from 2020-21.
