Dave Salvagnini is the Chief Data Officer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, a role he started in June 2023. Salvagnini has an extensive history of impactful leadership, Information and communication technology, engineering management, systems engineering, and operations support.
According to NASA’s job posting for this role, the CDO is responsible for the Agency’s data strategy, including enterprise-wide governance and utilization of information as an asset, via data processing, analysis, data mining, information trading, and other means. He also serves as a key advisor and member of the OCIO senior leadership team and reviews the impact of the IT infrastructure of the Agency on data asset accessibility to improve infrastructure to reduce barriers that inhibit secure data asset accessibility.
Salvagnini previously served in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence as Director of the Architecture Integration Group and Chief Enterprise Architect. He also previously served as the Technical Director in the DoD’s Chief Information Office and was the DoD’s Chief Data Officer. He has more than 34 years of experience in IT, communications systems, and technology solutions. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years in various positions including aircraft maintenance, ground radio systems maintenance, and as a communications and computer systems officer.
