Hengyi Hu

Hengyi Hu was appointed the Chief Data Analytics Officer (CDAO) at the Consumer Products Safety Commission in 2023.

As the CPSC’s CDAO, Hu is focused on three primary areas:

1. Provide subject matter expertise as the lead data scientist in AI, ML, and other special projects in advanced analytics and hazard reduction
2. Advise CPSC leaders and program staff
3. Facilitate and lead cross-divisional collaborations on projects related to analytical systems, strategic priorities, and data/AI governance

Before his CDAO role, Hu was a Program Analyst at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. He served as a data analyst and subject matter expert in the Strategic Solutions Office within the Office of the Chief Procurement Officer. His primary duties included leading in-depth analysis of DHS-wide and government-wide category management spending, creating and standardizing performance metrics, revamping specialized procurement reports and procurement reporting systems, leading cross-agency collaborations for innovative data-driven decision making in category management, and advising executives and other SMEs across multiple agencies. Earlier, he was a Performance and Strategic Planning Analyst at the National Science Foundation and was a management and program analyst at the U.S. Department of Justice. He started his career in the private sector as a consultant for IBM and Kadix Systems.

Hu earned his B.S. in Information Sciences and Technology from Penn State University. He then earned his M.S. in Applied Information Technology and a Ph.D., in Information Technology, both from George Mason University.
