Naomi Adaniya

Dr. Naomi Adaniya serves as the Chief Data Officer (CDO) at the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). She builds the data expertise of the entire agency to empower personnel to confidently make data-driven decisions. Dr. Adaniya works closely with DEA executives to identify opportunities to realize mission value using data and partners with the CIO to deliver a unified data and technology strategic vision. She is also a senior advisor to the DEA Administrator and coordinates DEA’s data capabilities in support of the agency’s strategic goals.

Dr. Adaniya represents the DEA on the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Data Governance Board and chair of the Data Architecture Working Group, where she helps drive implementation of DOJ’s Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Geospatial Data strategies. Previously, Dr. Adaniya was Director of the DOJ’s Opioid Fraud and Abuse Detection Unit, which piloted the use of data to identify and prosecute individuals contributing to the opioid epidemic. In the Criminal Division, as a senior data scientist, she established two data analytical units in the Office of Policy and Legislation and the Fraud Section. She is a subject matter expert in data science, criminal justice and health policy, substance abuse, and sentencing.

Dr. Adaniya earned a PhD/MPH degree in public health specializing in health services management and policy at The Ohio State University (OSU) and a MA degree in geography focused on geographic information systems and spatial analytics. She also earned a BS degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Her work was recognized with the 2017 Attorney General’s Award for Fraud Detection and the 2020 Department of Health and Human Services’ Inspector General Award for Innovation.
