FHFA Names Tracy Stephan as first Chief AI Officer

Tracy Stephan has been named the first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO) at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), a newly created position focusing on AI leadership. As the CAIO, she will manage AI risk, promote AI innovation, oversee AI governance, and shape FHFA’s leadership role in using AI in the housing finance industry. Prior to assuming her current role, she was Supervisor of FHFA’s Office of Financial Technology and Innovation.

Before joining FHFA, Stephan worked for 17 years at Fannie Mae in various IT and data leadership roles.  Most recently she was the Vice President of Technology and Head of Innovation and Product Management. She drove innovation at scale and helped Fannie Mae transform into a product-centric organization. She worked with Fannie Mae business partners and senior leaders on a strategic and prioritized product portfolio. She developed new business cases to achieve over $1 billion in new annual revenue and led a team that developed and launched a public data and API platform. In her prior role as Director of Enterprise Data technology, she developed the Enterprise Data Platform and helped transform the enterprise data infrastructure that was critical to business success. She also served as Director of Technology Architecture and Senior Manager of Corporate Functions Technology.
