Podcast: CFPB CDO Ren Essene on Leadership

Ren Essene, the CDO at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), talked with Adita Karkera, CDO at Deloitte Government and Public Services, about how the bureau’s mission and the need for stakeholder engagement for building a solid data strategy.  In the 10-minute interview, Essene said the bureau’s data program is a partnership effort that encompasses both the business and the CIO functions. Her key lesson learned for success is that she must first listen and understand the business needs and then ensure the bureau’s data strategy responds to those needs.  She engaged business leaders through a data governance board when building the data strategy.
