Deltek Market Analysis: Big Data Tech in FedCiv FY 2025 IT Budget Requests

Deltek GovWin IQ market analyst Alex Rossino has published a summary analysis of FY 2025 budget requests for big data-related programs by civilian agencies.

After dipping in FY 2024’s budget, the big data technology requests by civilian agencies will rebound to their highest level ever to $5.37 billion in FY 2025 (as requested). The agencies leading the increase are Health and Human Services (particularly the National Institutes of Health), Veterans Affairs, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency with DHS. Rossino notes that U.S. Customs and Border Protection also asked for a slight increase in big data-related funding to $382M in FY 2025.  The analysis did not include requests for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) programs, which were covered in a separate analysis: AI/ML in Civilian Agencies’ FY 2025 IT Budget Requests.

Per the analysis, the top five civilian agencies with the largest big data-related budget requests are:

1. DHS: $1.24B
2. HHS:  $974M
3. DOC: $612M
4. VA: $581B
5. DOJ: $326M

Rossino summarized:  “Wrapping up, the data clearly shows that federal agencies have become more comfortable with advanced analytics, data mining, and other big data approaches over the years. … I would expect the totals shown above to grow even more in the years to come as using analytics and dashboards have become standard parts of every agency’s program and budget management approaches.”
