The Curated Data Skills Catalog was developed in 2020 as part of the Federal Data Strategy to enhance data competencies within federal agencies. It serves as a common vocabulary for data roles and skills in the federal data ecosystem, aiding agencies in managing data as a strategic asset and making data-driven decisions. The catalog highlights governmental learning opportunities and existing resources to help develop staff data skills aligned with the Federal Data Lifecycle. It supports the implementation of the Evidence Act and the Executive Order on AI, addressing staff capacity for data-related functions.

The catalog is divided into two sections: Federal Data Lifecycle and Associated Skills, and Federal Learning Opportunities, detailing federal data training and courses. It’s a resource for federal employees to improve their data capabilities, ensuring better harnessing of data’s power. The Data Skills Catalog was transferred to the custodianship of the Federal CDO Council at the end of 2020.
