EDM Council Public Sector Forum Feb. 2025
The EDM Council’s US Public Sector Forum will meet Feb. 26, 2025. This meeting will feature a presentation about Combating & Measuring Fraud: GAO’s Use of Ontology.
This Knowledge Series Presentation will be led by Leia Dickerson, Taxonomy + Research Lead, and Nick Weeks, Senior Analyst, Forensic Audits and Investigative Service Team, United States Government Accountability Office (GAO).
The GAO Fraud Ontology was released as part of GAO’s Antifraud Resource and is a conceptual framework designed to provide a common language for defining fraud terms across the federal government.
The ontology was developed with EDM Council’s Data Innovation Lab after initial work by GAO to address the extent of fraud in the government showed that there was no consensus on the terminology used to describe it. The presentation highlights the structures of ontologies and shows examples of how classes, subclasses, individuals, and properties connect with each other in the GAO Fraud Ontology. The presentation also guides using the ontology in the application Protégé and through SPARQL querying. Included are more resources for those interested in learning more about ontologies.
