This position reports to the Inform and Disseminate Division within OPHDST. The mission of OPHDST is to “optimize timely access, exchange, and integration of public health data while driving efficiency and consolidation of data and technology systems supported by CDC across all levels of public health and advancing open data and dissemination to inform decision making and action.”

According to the posting, duties for the IT Specialist include:

  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to the OPHDST, CDC, other US government agencies, and state, territorial, local, and tribal (STLT) public health partners in the development, dissemination, and implementation of modernized information systems, reusable technology and services, and data management standards, guidance, methods and solutions.
  • Provide specialized expertise in computer science, computer system architecture, information systems, and data management across the data lifecycle to enable core missions of public health to detect and monitor, investigate and respond, and inform and disseminate.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance on public health information systems within and outside of CDC and its constituents and serves as an agency expert in new and emerging information technology tools, platforms, and methods.
  • Direct assignees to assure OPHDST expertise and technical assistance is provided effectively and efficiently.
