The Department of Commerce, Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is searching for a Data Scientist, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.
The Commerce OIG improves the effectiveness of the Department’s programs and operations, and investigates waste, fraud, and abuse in the Department and those who do business with it.
According to the posting, duties for the Data Scientist include:
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for the team on data science research and projects that conduct analyses to make informed projections, data-driven decisions, and recommendations based on findings.
- Conduct analyses utilizing open source or proprietary programming languages to write code that prepares, processes, and transforms data, and applies advance scientific, mathematical, and statistical principals and theories to new and existing data sources.
- Design, implement, and oversee workflows for data collection, data storage, and data retrieval.
- Initiate, formulate, plan, and execute analytic research projects.
- Work with auditors, investigators, inspectors, and other stakeholders to identify, obtain, and review large datasets for fraud, waste, and/or abuse.
