The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) within the Department of Transportation is searching for a Supervisory Data Scientist, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.
NHTSA is searching for an experienced Supervisory Data Scientist who possesses knowledge of emerging data science techniques including the application of geospatial analysis, analytic tools and data visualization techniques. He or she must have outstanding ability to plan, initiate, coordinate, implement and complete the design and development of an advanced analytic program to complement the statistical analysis program already in place.
The Advanced Analytics Division provides analytic support to all agency programs concerning crash data analysis to facilitate timely insights through the application of emerging data science techniques, geospatial analyses as well as querying and visualization of crash data insights especially from the State Electronic Data Collection (SEDC) program.
According to the posting, duties for the Supervisory Data Scientist include:
- Direct division staff, in a variety of analysis and information activities to support Agency programs. These activities include in-house and contract studies, data inquiries and summaries, reports, briefings, technical consulting, and methodological research.
- Coordinate and advise other NCSA Offices and the Associate Administrator for NCSA on matters affecting data integration, preparation and analysis using machine learning, AI and spatial integration techniques.
- Provide consultation for all agency programs that require geospatial analysis of motor vehicle crash hotspots. His/her interpretations, findings, and judgments are authoritative in these areas and form the basis for appropriate official Agency action or policy.
- Manage the program through team leaders by scheduling and coordinating the division’s analytic work and allocating available resources to best fit the data needs, priorities, and deadlines of the Agency.
