The Department of State (agency-wide) is searching for a Supervisory Data Scientist in the Bureau of Global Talent Management, according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.
The position serves as a Supervisory Data Scientist in the GTM’s Office of Organization and Talent Analytics, (GTM/OTA), applying expertise in data science, operations research, and information management principles, techniques and scientific methods to solve complex problems through the use of data modeling tools that have a profound influence on GTM programs and key processes within the Department (DOS). This position reports to the Deputy Director of GTM/OTA.
According to the posting, duties for the Supervisory Data Scientist include:
- Directs a staff in developing new and improved statistical methods to collect, calculate and interpret complex data sets, develop complete datasets and present findings through data visualization to facilitate decision-making at all levels of DoS.
- Conducts data studies and analyses that are critical for the support of promotion models for the Foreign Service personnel system and serve as the underpinnings for workforce analysis forecasting for both the FS and Civil Service HR systems.
- Directs and develops plans and complex studies of resource requirements, assessments of organizations, and workforce policies, identifying and ensuring alignment with Department priorities.
- Applies different and varying analytical requirements ranging from advanced statistical analysis to survey development analysis. Employs representative mathematical models to infer/forecast results (e.g., Monte Carlo Simulation and Queuing Model).
