The Department of State is searching for a Program Manager/Data Officer in the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA), according to a job posting on USAJobs.gov.

This position serves as the Program Manager (Data Officer) responsible for data oversight and development within CA. The Data Officer coordinates and consults with the Bureau’s leadership and the Department’s CDO and Managing Director of the Center for Analytics in the Office of Management Strategy and Solutions on programs that impact the bureau to which he/she is assigned.

According to the posting, duties for the Program Manager/Data Officer include:

  • In consultation with and direction from bureau leadership, systematically captures Bureau data needs and prioritizes its data program of work based on feasibility, available resources, and mission impact.
  • Per Bureau leaderships’ directives, develops and implements short- and long-term data strategy for the Bureau, ensuring it aligns with the Bureau’s mission priorities and overall United States foreign policy direction.
  • The incumbent provides oversight and accountability for the development and maintenance of data programs, platforms, and tools in the Bureau.
  • Advises Bureau leaders on all data-related matters, including lending subject matter expertise on issues such as data visualization, data insights and automation, and artificial intelligence applications.
  • Serves as a recognized expert and technical authority within the assigned Bureau on analytical techniques necessary to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret unique and highly specialized data sets.
