Colin Crosby

Dr. Colin Crosby serves as the Marine Corps Service Data Officer (SDO) and Deputy Chief Data Officer (CDO) for the Department of the Navy. His mandate for the Marine Corps is to implement a robust approach for information management to identify, prioritize, and execute data and AI/ML priorities that align with enterprise strategies to drive business and operational outcomes.  He develops comprehensive approaches and governance for enterprise data and content management, information and knowledge management, and artificial intelligence.

Crosby is a retired Marine Corps Communications Officer. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in August 1996 after completing Marine Corps Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Va. In 2008, Crosby joined the Marine Corps’ Reserve IMA Detachment and was mobilized in support of Operations Enduring Freedom as the II MEF Information Technology Officer/Information Assurance Manager. Crosby was later assigned to the U.S. Military Observer Group – Washington, where he supported the U.N. Mission to Haiti as the Information Technology Officer for the military component. In 2014, Dr. Crosby supported MARFORCOM G-6 before transitioning to HQMC DC, Plans, Policies, & Operations as their SharePoint and Collaboration subject matter expert. In 2019, Dr. Crosby assumed the pivotal role of Information and Knowledge Manager at HQMC DC Information.

After leaving his full-time role in the USMC, Crosby served as the Business Development Lead for M.E.R.I.T., Inc. in Newark, NJ, where he led strategic initiatives and developed and implemented the company’s comprehensive business strategy.

Crosby earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). He earned an MBA from Regis University and his PhD in Business Administration/Information Security from Northcentral University. Crosby’s personal decorations for exceptional service include the Certificate of Commendation, The Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
