Anna Maria Calcagno

Anna Maria Calcagno, Ph.D., is the Chief Data Officer (CDO) for the Small Business Administration (SBA), where she is responsible for managing the SBA’s efforts to comply with federal data mandates such as the Foundations for Evidence-based Policymaking Act (2019), Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Memo M-19-23, and the Federal Data Strategy.

Dr. Calcagno previously served the SBA as the Director, Office of Strategic Management and Enterprise Integrity; Acting Director of the Office of Program Performance, Analysis, and Evaluation; and the SBA’s Statistical Official. She served in a similar role at FEMA’s Mission Support Executive Office as the Division Director, Strategy, Policy & Program Analytics.  She served for a decade in program evaluation, data, and AI-related roles for Federal health agencies including the National Library of Medicine, the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the National Cancer Institute.

Dr. Calcagno earned her Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas.  She received her Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of Michigan and her B.S. in Pharmacy from West Virginia University.
