Daniel Cain

Deputy Chief Data Officer

Department of the Treasury

Daniel Cain is the Deputy Chief Data Officer at the Treasury Department.

He previously served in multiple data leadership roles at the Bureau of the Fiscal Service, most recently as Director of Enterprise Data Strategy. Prior, as Director of Data Transparency, he was responsible for leading a team of over 30 federal and contractor staff to execute the requirements of Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014 (DATA Act). He also oversaw development of the Bureau’s data transparency products, including USAspending.gov and datalab.usaspending.gov, as well as government-wide financial data standards and analytical tools. Before working at BFS, he was Acting Director of the Treasury Department, overseeing a 100-person organization that provided business support services to Treasury Headquarters.

Cain also was a Presidential Management Council Fellow detailed to the Federal Aviation Administration, where he led a strategic planning and SWOT analysis for the Office of Commercial Space Transportation to articulate the mission, goals, and high priority objectives.

Cain earned his Bachelor degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and a Master degree in Policy Analysis from The George Washington University. He is certified in Agile Leadership and Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt).
