Deepak Kundal

Deepak Kundal serves as the Chief Data Officer at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) within the Department of Defense. Named to the position in April 2019, Kundal oversees the agency’s overall data strategy, multi-fabric data platforms, and storage capabilities. He leads the technical analysis of data sources to determine the optimal implementation approach. His specialty is creating comprehensive enterprise data governance competency and instilling sound data governance business practices.

Prior to joining the NGA in 2019, Kundal served as Chief Architect at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he led AI/ML initiatives within the realm of data strategy to help generate demand and qualify opportunities. During his 30 years of data strategy and architecture experience in the private sector, he worked most recently as a Partner at CSC, focusing on big data strategies, and at Knowledgent, where he led big data strategies to address complex financial problems. He was Chief Architect for SAIC, where he created the enterprise strategy for infrastructure consolidation, moving from 8,000 server to less than 1,000 and implementing Service Oriented Architecture. He also created the conceptual technical architecture for Processing Services at the IRS. Earlier he worked in technology leadership roles at Hewlett Packard, Talk America, J. Walter Thompson, and New Boston Systems.

Mr. Kundal earned his bachelor’s degree from Delhi University in New Delhi, India. He holds an M.S. degree in computer information systems from Strayer University and an MBA degree from Michigan State University. He is also a certified network engineer.
